Hear what Toronto Food Critics have to say about The Sidhartha:
Sidhartha
" Cozy and inviting, with
colourful swags, fabric-festooned alcoves, subdued lights and haunting
ragas from the speakers. Seamless service excels, with advice
charmingly proffered. The menu focuses on north India but devotes
special space to the south. A telling opener is ubiquitous onion bhaji
(four pieces, $4.99) of incomparable delicacy, the feathery, crisp,
greaseless batter encasing slices of soft, sweet onion. Mali kofta
($7.99), vegetable-and-cheese torpedoes in a dreamy, creamy gravy, are
instant superstars. Mutton Madrasi ($8.99) caps it off for meat: its
gravy, cumulatively fiery, barely softened with coconut, leaves you
licking your lips. Among desserts, dairy-based rashmali proves a
creamy, nutty treat. The wine list, tilting toward big, fruity New
World reds, stands up remarkably well to robust, melodious spicing. "
"... this charming north Indian eatery is easily Little India’s
classiest
spot. Most dig into the moderately spiced all-you-can-eat $8.99
lunch/$10.99 dinner buffet, but those who venture into the à la
carte
lineup will discover a few fiery gems.
Best: Chicken Bolcha,
large chunks of yogurt-marinated boneless tandoori chicken in an almost
Italian tomato sauce spiked with chilies and slightly soured with
vinegar; Mataar and Panner Pulao, cubes of deep-fried paneer – yes,
deep-fried cheese! – on a bed of white basmati studded with garden
peas; Bhindi Do Piazza, al dente okra fingers in turmeric-tanged sauce;
lightly oiled and blistered naan straight from the tandoor... "
" ... thank heavens for Sidhartha with soft lights, fabric-swathed
alcoves, Sidhartha spuns subcontinental kitsch in favour of simplicity
and cosiness... "
A Doctor's Review
" ... One of the tastiest, most satisfying East Indian restauraunts
I've been to in Toronto. With a nice quiet ambience, beautiful music,
and culinary delights, its no wonder this place is so popular. The
attentive staff sees to your every question and greets you with a warm
and friendly smile..."
